The neighborhood is bounded by Bedford-Stuyvesant to the north, Crown Heights to the east, Prospect Heights to the south, and Bushwick to the west. Stuyvesant Heights is a historic neighborhood in central Brooklyn, New York City. The neighborhood is part of Brooklyn Community Board 5. It is bounded by Bedford–Stuyvesant to the north; Clinton Hill to the northwest; Crown Heights to the southwest; and East New York to the southeast. The area was originally farmland outside of the City of Brooklyn. In 1839, Dutch farmer Peter Stuyvesant (for whom the neighborhood is named) purchased the land. His great-grandson, Peter Stuyvesant II, developed the area into a residential neighborhood in the late 19th century.
During the 19th century, Stuyvesant Heights became a prosperous middle-class neighborhood. The area was home to many prominent families, including the Stranahans, the Ryersons, and the Pierreponts.
